How to Wishlist Games on Steam

Want to make a list of games you want to buy in the future? You can use wishlists on Steam to help you. This guide will explain how to wishlist games on Steam.

If you’re regularly buying games on Steam, you’ll probably want to buy your games at their best price—not their retail price. The good news is that Steam regularly has sales that allow you to pick up games at a reduced cost. It’s just a matter of buying them at the right time.

You can use Steam wishlists to help curate a list of games you want to buy. Not only is it a good way for others to buy you games, but Steam will also alert you when a game on your wishlist is reduced in price. If you want to know how to wishlist games on Steam, follow this guide.

What is a Steam Wishlist?

A Steam wishlist is a personally curated list of games that you’re looking to buy in the future. These could be games that you’re buying yourself or, if you’re thinking about gifts, they could be games you want to recommend that others purchase for you.

If a game is added to your wishlist, Steam will monitor the price. When the price is reduced at any point (during regular Steam sales, for instance), you’ll receive a notification. This is an incentive (and a reminder) to buy your game at a good price.

Your wishlist visibility will depend on your account privacy settings. If your Steam profile is public, others can see your wishlist. If it’s private, your Steam wishlist will remain hidden.

There doesn’t appear to be a limit to the number of games you can add to your Steam wishlist. However, it’s probably a good idea to add and remove games you aren’t looking to buy, just for clarity.

How to Add Games to a Steam Wishlist

If you want to add games to your Steam wishlist, you can do so from any game page. These steps should work via the website and the Steam client.

To add games to a Steam wishlist:

1. Open the Steam client or website and sign in.
2. Press Store.
3. Find the game you want to add using the menu or search tools.
4. On the game’s profile page, scroll down and press the Add to Wishlist button.
   

The game will be added to your wishlist immediately.

Finding Your Steam Wishlist

You can find your Steam wishlist in your Steam account. Likewise, you can find other Steam wishlists (for other users) on their profile pages, but this will depend on their privacy settings.

For example, if a Steam user allows friends to view their wishlist (and you’re a friend), you should be able to view these games. For public Steam profiles, you should be able to view the games on the profile page of that user.

To view your own Steam wishlist:

1. Open the Steam client or website and sign in.
2. On the front page, hover over the Store menu.
3. In the drop-down, select Wishlist.
   
4. To purchase a game from the wishlist, click Add to cart and follow any additional instructions.
   

You’ll see your Steam wishlist (with added games) in the list. You can search through the list or use the sorting features to sort the list by name, release date, date added, and more.

To view another person’s Steam wishlist:

1. Open the Steam client or website and sign in.
2. Find and visit their profile page.
3. If you have access to view it, press Games on the left.
   
4. In the person’s game list, click Wishlist.
5. You’ll be able to view their Steam wishlist games here. To purchase the game (and gift it to the user), press Add to cart and follow the instructions.
   

How to Remove Games from a Steam Wishlist

If you purchase a game from your wishlist, it’ll automatically be removed. However, if you don’t want to buy the game, you can remove it manually.

To remove games from a Steam wishlist:

1. Open the Steam client or website and sign in.
2. Hover over the Store menu option.
3. Click Wishlist.
   
4. Locate the game in your wishlist.
5. In the bottom-right corner of the game entry, click Remove.
   
6. Click OK to confirm.

Once you’ve removed a game from your Steam wishlist, you’ll no longer receive notifications for it. You can add it to your wishlist again at any point.

Building a Game Portfolio on Steam

Using the steps above, you can quickly wishlist a game on Steam. Steam wishlists allow you to keep track of the games you want to play (but might need to hold off on buying). If you want to share it with others, you might find yourself benefiting from the generosity of others with a gift purchase. If that doesn’t work, you can always share games on Steam to help share in the costs, especially if you’re in a single household.
