How to Delete Cloud Saves on GOG

Want to keep your GOG game saves on your PC (or clear out any corrupted save files)? You can learn how to delete GOG cloud save files in this guide.
GOG (or Good Old Games) is a platform for older PC games. It’s also a place to pick up and play the latest games from GOG’s owner, CD Projekt, the developer behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077.
If you’re playing games on GOG, one useful feature is the ability to share your saved game files using cloud storage with other PCs. If you have trouble with this feature, however, you may need to delete these GOG cloud save files.
Unsure how? We’ll explain how to delete cloud saves on GOG below.
Where are GOG Game Saves Located?
GOG uses a uniform method for handling game files (including GOG game saves). This includes having a default location to store and locate game saves.
On Windows, you should typically find GOG save files in the C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\name of game\saves folder. You’ll need to replace the name of game folder with the correct directory for the game you’re looking for. The saves folder may be named Saved Games for certain games, too.
On Mac, the location for game saves may vary, but you should be able to locate it via ~/Library/Application Support/name of game/Saved Games or ~/Library/Application Support/name of game/saves using the Finder app.
As before, you’ll need to replace the reference to name of game with the correct path to the game you’re looking for.
Still can’t find the file? You can check the game’s correct save location using the PCGamingWiki website.
How to Delete Cloud Saves on GOG
The quickest way to delete cloud save files is to load the game first and remove the file. This will force the game to sync the removal of the file from your GOG account’s cloud storage.
Otherwise, the game file might sync back to your PC when you load the game next.
To delete cloud saves on GOG:
- Open the GOG client and launch your game.
- Use the Alt + Tab keyboard combination to switch out of the game.
- Locate the gameplay folder in File Explorer (on Windows) or Finder (on Mac).
- In the gameplay save folder (eg. Saves or Saved Games), delete any game save files.
- Return to your game and cleanly exit it. GOG will mark the cloud save file for removal.
After 24 hours (or sooner), the saved game file will be removed from GOG’s servers.
How to Disable GOG Cloud Game Saves
You can also disable GOG’s cloud saving feature in the GOG client itself. This will prevent GOG from syncing your game saves with its servers. This will stop cloud saving directly, but it can also be a useful way to troubleshoot problems without overwriting any saved games you already have.
To disable GOG cloud game saves:
- Open the GOG client and sign in.
- In the top-left, press the gear icon.
- In the drop-down menu, press the Settings option.
- Click Game Features on the left in the Settings menu.
- Uncheck the cloud saves option on the right to disable GOG cloud game saving.
- Exit the menu when you’re done.
With GOG cloud saving disabled, your gameplay save files will remain on your PC or Mac only. You’ll need to enable this setting again if you want to save your files to the cloud in the future.
Using GOG for Gameplay on PC and Mac
Using the steps above, you can quickly delete cloud saves on GOG. This is a good way to fix a problem with a corrupted save file. Alternatively, if you want to have a go at a game again, you might want to start afresh without an existing save file in place.
Not enjoying a game you’ve purchased? You can always request a refund on GOG for a game you want to return. If you use another platform like Steam, you can also share your Steam games with others.
