How to Hide Game Activity on Discord

If you’re using the desktop or mobile apps, you may need to make changes to your Discord settings to hide your game activity. You may also need to change your settings if you’re using the Discord web client.

These steps will show you how to hide your game activity on Discord on any platform.

On PC or Mac

To hide your game activity on Discord on a PC or Mac:

Open the Discord app or Discord web client and sign in on your device.
Once you’ve signed in, press the User Settings icon next to your profile icon in the bottom left.
In the Settings menu, scroll through the menu options on the left until you reach the Activity Settings section, then select the Activity Privacy option.
In the Activity Privacy menu, switch the Display current activity as a status message slider to the Off position (in gray).
To always default to a hidden activity status, switch the Share your activity status by default when joining large servers slider to the Off position.

Any changes to your Discord account settings will apply immediately. Your status should become hidden at this point, but if it doesn’t, make sure to close and restart Discord to force the change.

On Mobile Devices

To hide your game activity on Discord on an Android, iPhone, or iPad device:

Open the Discord mobile app on your device and sign in.
Tap the three-line menu icon in the top-left.
In the slide-out menu, tap your profile icon in the bottom right.
In the Settings menu, select the Privacy & Safety option.
To make your game or app activity private on Discord, tap the Display current activity as a status message slider to switch it to the Off position (in gray).

Once you change your account settings on Discord, the change should apply immediately. However, you may need to restart the Discord app to see the change take effect.

How to Set a Custom Game Status on Discord

Want to trick other Discord users with a custom game status? You can customize the game or app that appears as your currently active game in your Discord settings. This can give you some privacy by hiding the game you’re really playing without disabling the feature entirely.

This feature is only available for users who use the Discord desktop app on a PC or Mac. Unfortunately, the feature doesn’t work in the Discord web client or the Discord app for Android, iPhone, and iPad users.

To set a custom game status on Discord:

Open the Discord desktop app on your PC or Mac and sign in.
Click the User Settings icon in the bottom-left.
In the Settings menu, scroll to the Activity Settings section in the menu on the left and select the Activity Privacy option.
Ensure that the Display current activity as a status message slider is enabled.
Next, click the Registered Games menu option in the Activity Settings section on the left.
Click Add It in the Registered Games menu.
Choose any app you currently have open from the list provided (such as your web browser or any other open app) and press Add Game to make it visible.
The game or app you selected will become visible. To remove it, hover over it in the Registered Games menu, then press the cross icon in the top-left.

You can repeat these steps and switch to a custom game status on Discord at any point. As long as you select a currently running application, you can hide the game you’re actually playing from other Discord users.
